Poppy Bowers

Poppy worked as Administrative Assistant for Birthrites from 2005 – 2007, she is now based in London and works as Assistant Curator at Whitechapel Gallery. After graduating in 2003 with a degree in History of Art and Architecture Poppy returned to Manchester University in 2005 to study a part-time MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies. Poppy has worked on a number of art projects across a variety of venues including Henry Moore Institute Leeds, Manchester Art Gallery, APT Gallery and an off site project for Castlefield Gallery. In 2007 she moved to London to join the exhibitions team at Wellcome Collection, where she project managed exhibitions and artist commissions that explored the human condition through art, medicine and social history. Alongside her studies and full time employment Poppy has co-curated a series of independent art projects in Manchester and London. She co-founded Doorstep Collective in 2005 and Hammer a Nail in 2007, both of which staged investigative and site-specific projects promoting an active engagement with the location and circumstances in which they were held.
