Kathleen Beegan

Kathleen started her working life in the 1970s as a Haematology Technician working on leukaemias and heamoglobinopathies. She later studied Shiatsu Therapy, qualifying in 1991 and becoming a registered member of the Shiatsu Society. She qualified as an Auricular Acupuncturist at the Yuan Clinic (John Tindall) and has worked as a Shiatsu Therapist & Ear Acupuncturist at Stockwell Group Practice for 12 years. She also sees clients at home.

In 1997, Kathleen studied with Janet Balaskas to be an Active Birth Teacher, providing pre- and post-natal yoga and childbirth education to couples. She offers weekly yoga classes and birth preparation sessions to women and their birth partners. She is co-chair of ‘Yogabirth’, formerly the Active Birth Group, and is a tutor on Yogabirth’s teacher training course in Yoga for Pregnancy.

Kathleen’s yoga formation included a two year SE1 yoga teacher training course at Morley College, based on the teaching of Vanda Scaravelli. She has also studied with  Sandra Sabatini, Lolly and John Stirk and Sophy Hoare. Yoga provides her with the resource from which she can offer support and learning to women and men as a childbirth educator.

Over the years, Kathleen has built up good working relationships with midwives and hospitals and has been attending the St Thomas’ Home from Home working party meetings for over two years. She has taught short workshops on the benefits of yoga and massage at St Thomas Hospital.
